Hold the Institution Accountable - Stand with Your Neighbors
In the heart of Allston, hard-working members of our community were detained by the federal immigration agency after a student leader at Boston University publicly took credit for repeatedly calling emergency enforcement authorities to report their workplace. Boston.com
That student’s actions reflect a deeper pattern of targeting vulnerable workers rather than supporting human dignity, community resilience, and mutual respect.
What Happened:
On November 4, 2025, agents from the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement detained nine employees at a local car-wash in Allston. Boston.com
A few days later, the student leader of the BU College Republicans publicly said he had been “calling ICE for months on end” and welcomed their involvement in detaining the workers. Boston.com
In his own words:
“As someone who lives in the neighborhood, I’ve seen how American jobs are being given away to those with no right to be here.” Boston.com
These comments reveal a mindset that treats immigrant neighbors as disposable and casts compassionate community practices aside.
Why This Matters:
-
Vulnerable workers — many without legal representation, many simply supporting their families — are being treated as criminals when their real offense is seeking livelihood. Boston.com
-
The values of equity, respect, and community interconnectedness are undermined when individuals weaponize enforcement against neighbors.
-
As a trauma-informed practitioner and feminist empowerment coach, I believe our neighborhoods must reflect safety, agency, and dignity — not fear, exclusion, or retaliation.

Subject: Concern Over Student Conduct and Community Impact
Dear [University Leader Name],
I am writing as a neighbor and community stakeholder who values inclusive, respect-based conditions in our shared space. I read with concern that a student at Boston University publicly encouraged federal immigration enforcement activity against local workers in Allston.
These are not abstract issues. They impact families, neighborhoods, and the trust that holds communities together. I ask that Boston University respond in a transparent way:
• What steps will the University take to review the conduct of that student?
• How will the University reaffirm its commitment to equity, immigrant rights and the dignity of all workers in the neighborhood?
Thank you for your attention to this matter. I believe Boston University can lead by example in ensuring that safety, equity, and community come before fear, exclusion, and enforcement.
Sincerely,
[Your Name]

Hi,
My name is [insert name] I’m an Alumni of BU and Brighton Resident. I am reporting Zac Segal for the harm he has, and will continue to cause, to members of our community.
He has bragged online regarding his calls to ICE, clearly indicating himself as the direct cause of the ICE raid at the Allston/Brighton Car Wash. Zac Segal posted Nov. 7 above a Boston.com article about the raid, writing, “I’ve been calling ICE for months on end. This week they finally responded to my request to detain these criminals,” (Daily Free Press, Sana Muneer, November 13, 2025).
He has dehumanized members of our community, and has caused serious, unimaginable harm. Boston University's Code of Student Responsibilities states in Section II, subsection b:
—------------------
“All Boston University students are responsible for:
Respecting the rights of others.
Respecting the highest standards of academic integrity and reporting any violations of those standards to the dean of their school or college or to the Associate Provost for Undergraduate or Graduate Affairs.
Respecting the property of others, and the property, equipment, facilities, and programs of the University.
Refraining from actions that endanger the health, safety, or welfare of any member of the University community or its guests.
Complying with federal, state, and local laws
Failure to fulfill any of these responsibilities may result in disciplinary action under this Code.”
—------------------
Zac Segal has intentionally committed actions that have endangered the health, safety, or welfare of the members of the University community and its guests. Under this Code of Conduct, the term “community” is not specifically defined and therefore can be clearly interpreted to include those living in the neighborhoods surrounding Boston University, including Allston/Brighton. The nine people who were kidnapped as a direct result of Zac Segal's actions are integral parts of our community, and have faced serious harm because of his actions. By causing these members of our community such harm and violence, Zac has violated Boston University's Code of Student Responsibilities.
As an alumni of Boston University, I am calling on the administration to take the following actions to mitigate the harm done by Zac Segal, and to prevent further harm from being caused by their students.
BU must take swift disciplinary action regarding Zac Segal’s violation of of the Student Code of Conduct
BU must issue a statement condemning the actions taken by Zac Segal
BU must do an investigation of the Boston University College Republicans to determine if there is risk of other harm being caused by members of this organization, and if so, take swift disciplinary action
BU must provide support in covering legal fees for those who have been directly harmed by the actions of a BU Student
As a BU Alumni and member of the Allston/Brighton Community, I demand that BU stand by the moral principles it prides itself on, and take the above actions in response to their students' gross violation of the Code of Student Responsiblties.

Massachusetts Representative Email Template
Subject: Request for Action on ICE Raid Impacting Allston Workers
Dear [Representative/Senator] [Last Name],
I am writing as a constituent who is deeply concerned about the recent ICE raid in Allston that resulted in the detention of several workers at a local car wash. According to publicly available reporting, a Boston University student leader stated that he had repeatedly contacted federal immigration authorities prior to the raid. This raises serious concerns about how vulnerable workers in our neighborhoods are being targeted and what protections exist for immigrant communities in Massachusetts.
Regardless of immigration status, the people affected are our neighbors, community members, and workers who contribute to the local economy. Raids like this sow fear, erode trust, and undermine the safety and dignity of immigrant families.
I am asking that your office:
• Look into the circumstances surrounding the raid and its impact on the Allston community.
• Advocate for policies that reduce the harm caused by federal immigration enforcement actions in Massachusetts.
• Support community-based alternatives that prioritize safety, due process, and the wellbeing of immigrant residents.
• Publicly affirm your commitment to protecting vulnerable workers across the Commonwealth.
Massachusetts prides itself on being a place where human dignity matters. This incident highlights the urgent need for stronger state-level protections and leadership.
Thank you for your attention to this matter. I appreciate your commitment to representing our community’s values and ensuring that all residents — regardless of background — are treated with fairness and respect.
Sincerely,
